The Biontessori Kids research group from Colegio Montessori de Cartagena continues to make its mark in international scientific settings. On this occasion, they participated in a webinar of the Trees Around the GLOBE campaign, an educational initiative led by NASA through the GLOBE Program, hosted by Brian Campbell, Senior Earth Science Specialist, a key role within NASA’s education area.
During this space, which brings together experts, students, teachers, and citizen scientists from different parts of the world, research about trees and their role in maintaining the balance of Earth’s ecosystems is explored. These virtual meetings not only allow knowledge to be shared, but also strengthen scientific thinking and environmental commitment from the classroom.
In this important setting, our students Abril Maza, Emma Sands, and Montserrat Macia, members of Biontessori Kids, presented their project “Determining Mangrove Ecosystem Health by Comparing Field and Satellite Data” through a video and a live conversation.This project was awarded five badges at the Virtual Science Symposium of The GLOBE Program, a remarkable achievement that fills us with pride.During their presentation, they explained how they compared field data with satellite information to analyze the health of mangrove ecosystems. This type of research is essential for understanding the impact of climate change and the importance of protecting these natural environments that safeguard biodiversity and coastal communities.
Biontessori Kids’ participation in this international webinar reflects the strong academic level and research commitment of our students, who not only gain scientific knowledge but also develop skills such as data analysis, communication in global contexts, and collaborative work.

El grupo de investigación Biontessori Kids del Colegio Montessori de Cartagena continúa dejando huella en escenarios científicos internacionales. En esta ocasión, participaron en un webinar de la campaña Trees Around the GLOBE, una iniciativa educativa impulsada por NASA a través del GLOBE Program, el cual fue liderado por Brian Campbell, Senior Earth Science Specialist, un cargo clave dentro del área de educación de la NASA.
Durante este espacio, que reúne a expertos, estudiantes, docentes y científicos ciudadanos de diferentes partes del mundo, se abordan investigaciones sobre los árboles y su papel en el equilibrio de los ecosistemas del planeta. Estos encuentros virtuales no solo permiten compartir conocimientos, sino también fortalecer el pensamiento científico y el compromiso ambiental desde las aulas.
En este importante escenario, nuestras estudiantes Abril Maza, Emma Sands y Montserrat Macia, integrantes de Biontessori Kids, presentaron su proyecto “Determining Mangrove Ecosystem Health by Comparing Field and Satellite Data”, Este proyecto recibió cinco insignias en el Virtual Science Symposium de The GLOBE Program, un logro destacado que nos llena de orgullo. Por medio de un video y una conversación en vivo. En su intervención explicaron cómo compararon datos recolectados en campo con información satelital para analizar la salud de los ecosistemas de manglar. Este tipo de investigación resulta clave para comprender el impacto del cambio climático y la importancia de conservar estos entornos naturales que protegen la biodiversidad y las comunidades costeras.
